You cannot claim you have to follow public perception when the public perception is based on misinformation. That should be a given, although obviously it isn't, in policymaking, as with anything else. You definitely cannot frame a poll to gauge public perception based on misinformation, as here. 3/

As with so much, whether diagnosis rates for autism and ADHD, levels of immigration, access to disability support, number of trans/non-binary individuals etc etc, public perception is based on what the public read, policies are then based on public perception. Perception is often bollocks though. 2/
