just another 'marginalized group' (cringing so hard right now), or maybe fringe group is better, gaining social capital through language use which then goes mainstream? is it the depressing reality than incel culture is gaining this kind of currency in our society?

Has anyone written about a potential shift in where American slang is coming from--like historically for the last ~80 yrs it seemed to come from queer/AAVE language, but now words like 'maxxing', 'mogging', just to name a few have their origins in 4chan/incel online communities. What's up with that?

Yes, we should respect their work, but science is not immutably carved in stone, nor is it a dogmatic certainty. Today's ideas will change and evolve too, and that's something to be hoped for and welcomed. Knowledge is power, and knowledge about autism should have its provenance in autistic people.

This is normal. Any science evolves and progresses as we learn more about it and this should be celebrated, not resisted. That's nothing to do with culture, nor is it a war. Ageing professors who are unhappy about losing relevance and influence should remember on whose shoulders they once stood.
