I wondered about a knee-toe curve to royalty count rates: you earn a lot per stream for a few plays (10% of your total count), much less per play for the rest of your streams, earn a lot more for reaching the top 10% of all artists. You could set it relative to radio play rates, too, e.g. BBC rates.

It’s good infrastructure for counting, and probably should be owned collectively. AIUI the peformance rights societies at the time were very annoyed at the master rights holders for their legal campaign against copying.

When copying became nearly free (in practical terms) the blank media levies (equivalent of) were the way out, and publicly-controlled infrastructure to count and apportion it the most just way through. Spotify shouldn’t make any money, but it should exist.

Watched Beverly Hills Cop last night as it was a £1 charity shop find and pleased to report it kept 15 y/o son gripped "thank you for making me watch this" & the scene between Murphy & Bronson Pinchot (Serge) is still one of the most joyous things ever filmed. They should have had a sitcom together.
