    In other words, part of what’s freaking me out is knowing the nefariousness of companies’ uses and broader effects of full integration into ppl’s lives (political, environmental, etc) even if the individual uses are technically innocuous and fully within the bounds of scholarly standards.

    I promise I'm not trying to stir things up, I'm genuinely curious how this reads to anti-AI folks such as yourselves who acknowledge gray areas: I just—by myself—wrote a 10k-word academic piece. I then gave an LLM access to it + everything it cites (local model, couldn't train on/steal anything).
