    sinofandom is a site built for the Chinese fic fanbases that used AO3's open source code to establish itself. There are more guardrails there for OG uploaders, such as password setting and offering a direct link over a download option. It's an example of what can be done with that base code.

    I do blame algorithm-brain for a large chunk of this. Algorithms breed entitled toxic people like rabbits. Combined with christofascist ideology and yea. I do think it can be fought but the actual fight is way larger than I think ao3 writers can do much about solely on these platforms

    I’ve seen this happen with reposters too unfortunately (on instagram) it’s so infuriating like reposters are really just the grifters of fandom and I’m not sure how it’s going to be dealt with when theres so much apathy and people are too algorithm poisoned to even find the original artists accounts
