Stigma is a major barrier, made worse by the way politicians and the media talk about social security and the people who use it. Telling a more positive story via a take-up strategy would really help!
Voir le postIt's often an internalised form of stigma. The idea that "benefits aren't for people like me". Accepting support via social security can be a threat to some people's identity. Plus many people fear DWP. Sometimes people experience real hardship as a result, but they would rather that than claim UC.
