It reminds me of the post 2009 market where people who lost their jobs after the crash needed work and were forced into accepting jobs that required all the same skills but for a much lower salary bc "you're lucky to be working." Basically, employers are hollowing out the "good jobs" altogether.

A big part of why the job market is so broken is that a lot of 30-50 year olds have been laid off from mid-level "good" jobs that paid salaries in the $75-100k range and the jobs that are "available" for people with that much experience are trying to hire people for something more like $60-70k.

If you're looking for a job and it feels impossible, just know that it's not you. It's not you at all. The entire employment market is broken, because the billionaires and PE goons and "major shareholders" broke it on purpose after workers made some modest gains in wages and freedom in 2020-2021.

If you worked your way up to a "good job" in the 2010-2020 era through all the layoffs and changing companies every 2-3 years because that was the only way to get a raise, you REALLY can't afford to take a 20-30% pay cut to get back to work, so people keep looking and looking. That's where we are.
