    Fall in share of children is due to high housing costs. High housing costs are due to constricted demand. Constricted demand is due mostly to zoning (and to some extent building codes). I expect more from our major newspaper, especially in data-oriented articles.

    The *change* in the cost of living in Portland is almost exactly the same as the rest of the country. This is entirely a housing story! The Oregonian gets a lot of crap for feeding into Portland doomer narratives, and this is a perfect example, IMO. The data is (are...) crystal clear:

    Continually stunned by data illiteracy at @oregonian.com, this time from @rogoway.bsky.social. www.oregonlive.com/business/202... "Fewer kids will ultimately mean fewer adults." No! This is exactly what the data is about! We have *more* residents than 2010 with proportionally *fewer* kids!
