    Yes, the islands are obviously geographically related and in Ireland people call them Ireland and Britain. In the UK most people refer to them as Britain and Ireland or the UK and Ireland. Ireland isn't British, not even geographically, regardless how you have been educated to think it is.

    We do not use nor do we approve of the term. Most British people are now realising this and tend not to use the term when in Ireland. Regardless what some Roman or Greek mapmaker may have called the islands, there is zero historical evidence of British or Irish people using the term before 1600.

    Accepted. An all-too-common mistake by some of our British neighbours when engaging in a discussion where Ireland & Britain are brought into some comparison with each other - Britain being referred to as the 'Mainland' or worse, the 'British Mainland' as if Ireland was the fucking Isle of Wight.
