    And I know some people will disagree with this, and I'll concede they are entangled in complicated ways, but I also think Trumpism is also a kind of snuff-ism - gawking at the suffering of others. And I think that part goes away faster than the white grievance part.

    I don't think it's "dead," but it has been severed from a paired sense that it was destined to be underwrite a dominant political coalition. Now normies who don't subscribe to it can break from it rationally, which IMHO was the over-comable challenge.

    The challenge before us is to use this wave to pass institutional / structural reforms that prevent it from entrenching itself further. But from where I sit, this is no moment for kumbaya reunion -- or, in Douglass's memorable phrase, clasping hands across the bloody chasm.

    I'm as hopeful as anyone, but I am a lot less convinced than some of you that Trumpism / MAGA is now somehow "dead." I don't think Tuesday was ONLY gas-prices, but... I'm also not convinced it was some huge IDEOLOGICAL repudiation of the White grievance and threat this movement runs on.
