Yes, rooftop solar, induction stoves, EVs and other home decarb investments reduce emissions and (eventually) save you cash, but don’t discount the sheer joy of saying goodbye to oil and gas. We could all have this. And we will.

Good to see this. Most of the energy podcasts in my feed are not really engaging at all with the climate impact of data centres. It takes @ketanjoshi.co to spell out the very simple fact that clean energy tech only supports decarbonisation if it’s displacing fossil fuels.

Posting modeling conclusions without fully specifying the underlying assumptions is just a fancy way of saying, "Trust me." Maybe your study is extremely rigorous and 100% correct. Maybe you're dressing up ideology in graphs and stats to seem sciencey. I can't know unless you show your work!

All energy modeling takes the form "If this, then that." It begins with assumptions (about equation structures and numerical parameter values), does math, and ends with conclusions. If the modelers don't specify their assumptions, there is literally know way to know if their conclusions are valid.

After many years of scientific publishing, it's so wild to me that think tanks put out studies with tons of undisclosed modeling assumptions and zero path for other people to reproduce their results, and... media take them seriously? Sorry, but graphs and stats do not signify truth. Show your work!
