    i was like jesus christ okay it makes sense then why you don't treat authors like people. you don't know authors are peers! you think they want an audience when they actually want friends! the relationship to fanwork is fundamentally different!

    i was talking to some people on the ao3 subreddits (very toxic, would not recommend) and i came to the realization that a lot of people who read fic and thus follow the sub don't... participate in fandom? like at all? like they read ao3 and that's it

    perhaps the problem is those of us who've been here a long time and learn ficing as a secret au to our lives, simply have not been able to share spaces with the kids who don't understand discretion on the internet and not merging all your identities into one. so the etiquette has not been taught
