Serious people in Europe (@timoseidl.bsky.social) have been talking about limiting the number of publications per year, mechanism could perhaps be through the grant funding agencies as that is the major source of funding for scholars in the EU. An issue even before AI took over.
Ver postMany have tried to explain discriminatory hiring and other DEI insanities in academia with left-wing bias and censorship. I think a bigger factor was simply forgetting about the taxpayer who funds us. Had we asked the public whether what we were doing was OK, they'd have said "Hell, no."
