    A similar issue here with their $60 cashmere sweaters. In a 2025 Washington Post article, lab testers found Quince sweaters performed the worst of all "budget" cashmere knits. They are most prone to pilling, losing color, and falling apart. This is among the "budget" brands, nevermind "luxury."

    I also take issue with the way they market their products. They often tout that they use the same factories as luxury brands, but just because two items were made in the same factory doesn't mean they're comparable. Brands can change all types of specifications to switch quality.

    For certain kinds of garments — jeans, trucker jackets, chore coats — fading can be an important part of the aesthetic. If you buy a chore coat made from stretch cotton, you will never achieve this kind of look.

    Check out these vintage US Army fatigues. The first pair was made before the the 1980s, so it was constructed from pure cotton. The second pair was made after the 1980s, when the US Army switched to a cotton-poly blend. Both pairs have been used, but second has not faded.

    I'm not a purist about natural fibers and think synthetics can play a role in a thoughtful wardrobe. But when you add synthetics like this, you do two things. First, you can make it harder to repair the garment down the road. Second, you change how it ages.
