China is having European industry for lunch. If Europe doesn't defend itself, we'll be deindustrialised and lose all autonomy. America is having European defence for dinner - threatening to abandon us, ordering us to pay more, and ordering us to buy American, all at once.

Berlin was obeying German automakers and opposing tariffs on Chinese cars because German carmakers make money on the Chinese market while China destroys their home market position. Later, desperately urgent tariffs had to come in, and China will soon not need nor want much from Germany at all.

... Germany would deliberately continue to procure U.S. defence products in order to stay in the game. This is the defence equipment of the German government's mistake of 2 years ago with Chinese EVs.

An awful way of thinking is doing the rounds within the German MOD. Instead of going full-on towards autonomy, Germany hesitates. Why? Mainly, it seems, because they think they could make money from co-producing and servicing U.S. defence production. And hence... www.politico.eu/article/germ...
