I see there's someone suggesting people caught up in the AO3 takedown register the copyrights on their fanfic to protect it from scraping, etc, and, oh, boy, is this really not a great idea. I assure you that Disney, et al will not take kindly to that. "But they have to find out!" THEY WILL FIND OUT

If enough people start trying to copyright their fanfic based on IP, all that's going to happen is corporations who own that IP will stop looking the other way at AO3. This is how you get Anne Rice suing fanfic writers 2.0. This is how you get AO3 and fanfic dot net shut down completely.

Oh my god please don't try to register the copyright of your fanfic. DO NOT DO THIS. For one, you can't. For two, this is a fantastic way to get yourself sued into oblivion by a corporation with more lawyers than some small town populations.
