USA doesn't exist pretty sure, the alternative timeline starts prior to the Europeans coming here. As for playing, there's a bunch of mods on Tabletop Sim and a pretty active community on both the big TC discord and the TTS specific one.

I approach skills and stats a bit differently in my homebrew ttrpg systems. There may be something for you here you can steal for your own games. Firstly, I break off skills from attributes. So you can use your learning in the sword to fight, but also to identify, appraise and repair swords.

I use this concept of free standing skills to include 'lores'- which is any general learning about a subject. Languages are lores and spells are lores. But you can have local area knoledge as a lore- so "Mirkwood Lore" or "Shire Lore".

Attributes are your general talents and aptitudes. Skills are your training. I will allow a player to use one stat, one skill and get a plus one if they have another equally relevant skill.
