every crime writer i know works in the genre bc we are *obsessed* with creating a world where justice is real and not just a concept. we allow for gray areas, live in the place where there are no good answers. but i can tell you that having computers do the work of censorship isn't a gray area.

at first we treated it as a joke. tried to trick the computer by spelling or compounding the words. i managed to get it to transcribe "fuckbois of literature" to applause from the audience. but there was a panel about using DV in crime storytelling– i wonder what AI censored out in that room.

So, I just finished at the world's largest crime writer's conference that, unbeknownst to me, included real-time transcription for all the panels. The transcription tool- AT A CRIME WRITER'S CONFERENCE- censored out all swear words and even the word "rape." AI transcription will always be BULLSHIT
