“The convention’s article 31 says that states “shall not impose penalties, on account of their illegal entry or presence, on refugees”. “That raises an obvious question: how is an additional 10 years imposed because a refugee entered the UK “illegally”, not a “penalty”?” Courts will be busy

I appreciate that that won't appeal to the lifetime ban crowd on BlueSky but despite doing hundreds of driving cases when I started out at the Bar, I can't remember one where someone reoffended having succeeded with exceptional hardship.

The ones I've seen in court have been people who had disabled dependents who relied on them driving and cases where a person's business would collapse resulting in hardship to employees. In every case I've seen in court magistrates have made it clear the driver can't keep relying on it.
