For me “beat” or “autonomously completed” or whatever else is fine, the clarifying part is it’s playing a version of Portal that is modified to be turn-based and in some other ways more amenable to be played by a language model.

Doesn’t mean it’s not cool! And I think colloquially saying that Astra “beat Portal” is fine. But for people who want to dive deeper into what is actually going on I think that’s the way I’d advise thinking about it.

My that it’s basically just doing something else, something very similar to “playing Portal” but sufficiently different that if you watch what it’s doing you can immediately see the difference. Exchanging planned move sequences for screenshots is just not what we’re doing when we play Portal.

I’m kind of curious whether having to interact with the game via JavaScript code is good, bad, or neutral. I would think it clogs up the context in an unproductive way; every turn it’s got to do all this boilerplate, adhere to arbitrary syntactic conventions, semicolons etc.
