Ver postI am certainly no linguist, but @davidstifter.bsky.social's paper on this is quite interesting – even later, "insular" Celtic languages borrowed words for key ocean-related things, suggesting they made the move to Ireland and Britain but even then didn't consider themselves seafarers.
