John will be missed by all of us in the world of 'Classic' Doctor Who.
Ver postJohn was amused to be asked frequently to sign photos of Bungle, the bear he played in the first year of Rainbow. He was particularly delighted to sign photos of the wrong Bungle, which was often the case. His was the bad-tempered, indeed, frightening version. The sweeter version was another actor!
Ver postI drink a lot of wine but have very little knowledge, so it was fun to talk about it with John.(I usually drink French wine, but this is due to Francophilia rather than expertise.)
Ver postOn top of his acting, John was a professional wine expert, contributing numerous articles to specialist magazines. Later in his life he was a frequent lecturer on cruises, which meant lots of free holidays for him and his wife!
Ver postJohn was always calm and focussed, even on the many days when the atmosphere at rehearsals was nightmarish. I remember him crawling around the floor of the rehearsal room, where John's expressive face made K9 a much more vivid character than the tin dog in the episodes.
