  Anyway good luck to Paul Bate. It’s not an easy role, although I think the interim CEO Jeremy Silver has stabilised things. But we need a strong and functioning British Library.   That lack of wider financial support after the BL suffered what was probably a hack by a foreign power leaves it in a tough position. Problems relating to staff pay or commercialisation of reading rooms are a symptom of this underlying problem that we don’t properly fund our national library
