ALL of this shit we’re in now is downstream of the Southern Strategy. The GOP committed itself to rank racism and fear mongering to disguise a never-ending transfer of our national wealth to the top 1%. Everything else is window dressing to serve that goal.

and that's why mainstream news orgs can't understand Bluesky's appeal yet. they see too much value in the neutrality and enforcement of the status quo that the Overton Window provides. being forced to look forward and accept that some ideas are just "behind us" as a society isnt easy, but it is true

i.e., "can I have a reasonable conversation with this person and trust that they're working to move us forward, rather than backward?" and I think that's a much more healthy way to approach online conversation than "is this person too extreme to the left or to the right, like with the Overton Window

don't get me wrong, there is a lot of hostility and I'd argue still too much vitriol between people who should be agreeing on most things. but the litmus test I feel like most people are trying to make for exclusion from their social circle is "does this person seem like they're in the Windshield?"

basically, instead of a window between Left and Right, where everything outside is considered too extreme, Bluesky feels like it's embraced a culture where there isn't left and right, there's just "is your ideology acceptable for public life, or does it belong in the Rear View Mirror?"
