Nicknamed Senbon Shaka-dō (千本釈迦堂) and Kitano Shaka-dō (北野釈迦堂), Daihōon-ji's main hall was constructed in 1227 (as Yōmei-bō 養命坊) and is a national treasure. It's the oldest surviving building within the original city limits. #Kyoto #千本釈迦堂 #北野釈迦堂

🪚🪵 🤯OKAME🤔📏✨ In the grounds of Daihōon-ji (大報恩寺) is a large statue of a plump-cheeked woman holding a 'masugumi' (斗ぐみ), a type of wooden bracket used in construction. Her name is Okame (阿亀), best known today for getting her husband out of a sticky situation🙄 #folklore
