    I literally was not the slightest bit annoyed that my commuting error (and an unacceptably long rush-hour wait for a bus) cost me a whole hour. I was that wrapped up in The Rouse. That’s a hell of a thing.

    I haven’t really connected with Mieville in the past. His books seemed to lack some animating spark, like they were interesting exercises that weren’t fully inhabited. What I know of The Rouse makes me less than wholly certain the bulk of it will work for me. But the opening novella—incredible.

    Got on the wrong L last night. I started the new China Mieville & did not notice my mistake for like 20 minutes, when I heard the Damen stop called & was like, What? We can’t be there yet. Got off & waited 20 minutes for a Damen bus. Was an hour late home. Didn’t care because the book is so good
