    But this is what we’ve got, and this is the best system we’ve come up with so far, and…some days I wonder if we wouldn’t be better served by staring at the goings-on less, and going out to put our own bricks onto the repair of the world more. Busy hands help the waiting, after all.

    And we did, and sometimes our representatives disappoint us, and we have to wait 2, 4, 6 years for the chance to try again. IF we can lever them out in the primary, IF there’s someone better. To be quite honest, I can see why it drives some folks around the bend.

    And so we howl into the void, making our demands to the aether, I think, to feel some level of control. We’ll TELL them what to do, god damn it, and threaten to withdraw our vote (our singular vote) if they don’t do what we want. If they don’t allow us control. We voted for them, damn it!

    I tend to think that, for many of us, who watch these goings on like our lives depend on it—admittedly, in many cases, because they do—that lack of control, that being forced to watch and wait, can leave us rather…gnawed.
