Ver postthe major problem here is less that industrial machinery is connected to the internet (there are reasonable benefits for doing this if done thoughtfully) and more that the median industrial facility possesses a small fraction of the in-house technical skill to use technology responsibly, imo
Ver postsome might say that's six in one hand, half dozen in the other, but i don't really think that's true; we shouldn't have to choose between industrial orgs living in the 20th century forever or getting hacked on the regular, but modernizing is going to require reprioritization and money
Ver postI’d say a significant part of it is upstream of the users - the vendors themselves have absolutely shit development practices when it comes to security so the users are already fighting an uphill battle. Even if you are on point with updates, doesn’t help if the vendor isn’t releasing patches!
