actually what freaks me out the most about all of this is the continued increase in mainstream attention on fanfic 😬.. the "books which are fic with the serial numbers scraped off" phenomenon was bad enough. stop looking at me.

i need to connect where i can, even if it's temporary. i need to believe that a computer can't do what i can even if it reads everything i've written, and that there are people who will see that despite everything that seems to say otherwise.

i understand the anger and the hopelessness but i feel like i would still rather live in a world where people share their fanfiction. i know it's tempting to react to rampant consumerism by witholding what you create but... i know i won't win over that type of reader anyway.

it's like almost impossible for me to feel ok sending my work to people directly without feeling like i'm annoying or pressuring them. i need unrealistic amounts of reassurance for it. so it's post online with all the increasing risks or just keep everything to myself.

the thing is i'm just going to keep writing and i'm just going to keep sharing it as long as there are platforms to do so. what i gain from doing that is still more than what i feel like i could be losing from scraping and reposting. even when it's not very much.
