I obviously can’t vote in the midterms but the result very much impacts my day to day life… and as someone who likes be in control, the absolute lack of control or agency I have right now is paralyzing. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD GO VOTE IF YOU CAN.

The older, physical and potentially fatal meaning of 'worry' is detectable in 'worrying' livestock, as a dog might do to sheep – although here too it has developed, as sheep worrying can mean to distress and make the animals panic.

Metaphorical uses of words can become their primary meaning – for example, Old English wyrgan 'to strangle', via a metaphor of mental distress, has given us 'worry'. Likewise, 'thrill' comes from þyrlian 'to pierce', itself from þyrl 'hole'. (The noun also formed part of nosþyrl, hence 'nostril'.)
