Ver postThanks to everyone who has read or listened to GILDED RAGE. In the last year, translation rights have been sold in Italy, Turkey, Taiwan, and China. If you ever see a foreign edition in a bookstore, please tag me in a photo.
Ver postsaw Daniel Kraus (WHALEFALL, ANGEL DOWN, won the Pulitzer) interviewed the other night and then just listened to a long interview with Zach Cregger (WEAPONS, RESIDENT EVIL) on a podcast and folks I am fired up about the state of genre storytelling
Ver postwhat's notable about both is that commercially their careers make no sense: Kraus has written 30 books across genres, in different styles; Cregger made a zag from comedy to horror and wrote WEAPONS when it had no chance of being made what they share: they make shit they themselves will really like
Ver postthe consistent outside knock against genre storytelling is that its formulaic or predictable, and yet it's reliably the space in which the biggest weirdos with the strangest ideas find an outlet for the stories they themselves want to tell
