This is your regular reminder that executive orders are not royal decrees. Because America has no king.
If we’re serious about more efficient government and better everyday life in America - which we all should be - that means actually improving government, not cutting health care for poor people and slashing support for veterans.
he’s right and he’s right to say it
My eldest daughter Claudia once asked me why there isn’t a provision that says that convicted felons can’t be president and this was *exactly* my answer

I want a president who is tougher on Putin than he is on Harvard.
BREAKING: The Interior Dept just used a fake “energy emergency” to greenlight gas and mining projects on public lands. It’s a lie. There is no energy emergency. This is a giveaway to big oil.
I want politics to be about a better everyday life. Here's what that can look like:
On being called DEI and why it isn’t the burn they think it is
This is Tuna. You have once again taken him to the vet instead of the park. Fool him once, shame on you. Fool him twice, even more shame on you. 13/10 (IG: tunathekahuna)
When the moment came, Harvard didn’t hedge or flinch—it stood up. A reminder that integrity isn’t complicated, it’s just rare.
“is my calculator horny?“ our tech columnist asks. “i entered 5318008 into it and turned it upside down. what i saw surprised me”
Drake Catches Himself Singing ‘Not Like Us’ In The Shower
my endorsement for any democratic presidential candidate who promises to send the entire DOGE team to prison
He’s so good at this.
Kinda insane and shows how afraid the networks are of upsetting this administration that a guy who killed 7 people and wounded 48 with “47” literally tattooed on his face has all but been forgotten like there’s still not a very serious threat emanating from every pore of this pathetic cult
the dude remains incapable of criticizing Putin
Harvard scientist Kseniia Petrova has been in ICE custody for about two months. Her colleague and friend Leon Peshkin says her case is causing some scientists to reconsider working in the U.S.
Newsom: In 2023, Californians contributed $83.1 billion more to the federal government than we received back. And for your viewers: that other state—Texas—took $71.1 billion more than it contributed to the federal government. California: $83 billion, contributor. Texas: taker.
They better be careful what they ask for
This is insane and everyone involved needs to be sued into oblivion and then go directly to jail
uh, people definitely know what oligarchy means? the hell?
🤦🏼 couldn’t make it up if we tried
It’s incredible that now the *best case* scenario is basically Trump engaging in a humiliating climb-down, but having already inflicted permanent damage and uncertainty that never be undone.
NEW: Judge Sessions DENIES the govt’s request to keep Rümeysa Öztürk in Louisiana as it appeals the court’s jurisdiction and reiterates that ICE must transfer her to Vermont by May 1. storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

The EPA is firing employees focused on children’s health simply because their job descriptions include DEI. These 10 regional children’s health coordinators have worked closely with schools and local institutions to prevent and address environmental hazards that put kids at risk.

All of the kidnapped and trafficked hostages need to be returned. Every one of them.
Pete Hegseth had an internet connection that bypassed the Pentagon’s security protocols set up in his office to use the Signal messaging app on a personal computer, AP reports

Reuters poll: Trump approval 37% approve 57% disapprove U.S. adults
My innate vapid contrarianism and desire to rebel mildly against cultural convention makes me fidgety and confused during a national slide into fascism, and I am paid to muse about it while you sit there and take it, today in the New York Times
This is true in the same way that everybody with an iPhone got a shit U2 album
This is absolutely, positively, without a doubt NOT the way.
In Dwarf Fortress terms this is a federal judge entering a Strange Mood
My sister got me a gratitude journal a few years back and while I didn’t stick with it long, I noticed that it did help me think more positively during the day. That said, she just gave me this one and I feel it’s a better fit for these times.
Tesla's quarterly profits are down 71% from a year ago. As Elon complains about "government waste," Tesla would have reportedly posted a Q1 loss this year if not for EV credits established under Biden. Hello?
/2 I have never accidentally filed something secret but I have accidentally sent a Crusader Kings III save game file to, if memory serves, the client Fortunately (1) the client had no idea what it was and (2) I wasn’t scheme to kill the pope or anything
Trump has ordered the US government to move forward with plans to mine the ocean floor an area nearly every other country considers off-limits to industrial exploitation. His executive order sidesteps a decades-old international treaty ratified by every major coastal nation except the United States.
Make it make sense. 🤔
New: We analyzed Trump's meme coin - At least 27 crypto wallets have picked up $100 million worth of $TRUMP coins since his team said the top holders would join him for an "intimate private dinner." Huge profit for Trump; "the most brazenly corrupt thing a President has ever done" wapo.st/4iAatO1
This is what happens when the richest man in the world uses cost-cutting as his excuse for dismantling govt. www.reuters.com/world/us/100...

Trump’s hits new lows: Fox polls show Trump tanking, China calls out Trump’s tariff lies, Musk and Trump’s Treasury Sec almost brawl, and Santos faces prison time with no Trump pardon in sight. Total meltdown. Catch up now!
Apropos of one of today’s discussions on here
Call me crazy, but I think sitting down to dine with and normalizing any fascist, especially one rounding up people without due process and shipping them to torture prisons, is insulting to 6 million Dead Jews.
I wrote about how Elon Musk is pretending he's leaving a job he supposedly doesn't have to return to the job he supposedly never left, and how basically everything about him is made up nonsense. www.techdirt.com/2025/04/24/e...
Politics is more clear when you remember that the "waste" in "government waste" is the profit that some rich asshole isn't making off labor in the public sector whose only purpose is the common good.
UPDATE: Despite a letter from 11 extreme house republicans asking him to veto a bill by Republicans Iris Rudder & Becky Massey that protects IVF & contraceptives in Tennessee, @GovBillLee has reportedly signed it.
This is the kind of thing I mean when I say someone should use Trump's own EOs against him. Trump claims there will be no federal funding for antisemites. Great, cite that and demand that Eagle Ed be fired. If it fails, it'll make the attacks on universities fail.
I’m convinced at this point the JCS has a side office set up in the Pentagon where they have someone just sending tips to reporters 24/7 until Hegseth gets fired

I’ve never understood the protests as a way to influence Trump. I believe they’re important because they’re a way to tell each other that we’re not okay with this. They’re a way to communicate with other Americans and hopefully suppress further normalization of Trumpism in everyday life.
Lab leak discussions are so odd to me. People are always asking why there was such an effort to push back against the theory. Well, it's obvious, isn't it? The point of the theory is to make COVID into China's Fault, to redirect all the anger toward xenophobic resentment. I mean, duh.
Mal so ein paar Tage ohne Nachrichten aus den USA klingen verlockend… ich werde wohl am Konklave teilnehmen.

if you're committed to publishing heterodox opinions, and your op ed section is filled with people whining about cancel culture, it seems like you'd be seeking out that viewpoint now, right?
