Post anzeigenYes, and that's where blind retries hurt most: the edit was planned against the old content, so re-applying it to the new version can be wrong even when it succeeds. A stale-version error that says what changed lets the agent decide whether its edit still makes sense.
Post anzeigenThe read-to-write gap is the one that bites. Most MCP edit tools assume the target hasn't changed since the agent looked, so a human edit in between gets silently overwritten. Passing a version back on write, and refusing a stale one, turns that into an error the agent can handle by re-reading.

Left: Mouse (accurate). Right: Stylus (approx. 12% lighter) This has been happening for ages, the eyedropper tool doesn't do it.
