yeah in a lot of ways I'm actually more worried about this one, schumer will be nearly 78 before his term is up and might just decide to retire even without a challenger but gillibrand is 59 and she is absolutely fucking awful, the NY caucus is such a mess

if AOC decides to go for senate and not president I do think there's a pretty decent chance schumer retires, yeah - though as much as I love e.g. lander I don't know that there's anyone else in the NY caucus who would produce the same result (mamdani isn't running for senate)

part of the problem is that the dems don't have a party leader without a president and so things get left to folks whose main job is "wrangle the caucus" and they do a piss-poor job if a president AOC gets elected in a landslide and says "I want congress to do this" they'll listen

jeffries unfortunately I don't see a realistic path to replace anytime soon - schumer's 75 but he's 56 and he's got a lot of support within the caucus, so we may need to drag him kicking and screaming towards Doing Things what will help a lot, I think, is running a good 2028 nominee
