    It’s weird to me how much society loves to tell stories about how good work and meaningful progress can only be achieved by scrappy outsiders rather than serious dedicated experts.

    I swear there are politicians who are good at their jobs and care very deeply and are not dirtbags. We should choose people like that, not pretend that good work can only be done by someone who is disdainful of the entire concept of the role and their future colleagues.

    I don’t really think “not a politician” should be a selling point for a candidate. The job is politician. I want to elect someone who understands that job and is good at it and also is not a dirtbag. We have seen how catastrophic it is to make “not a politician” the priority over “not a dirtbag.”
