Unicorn Overlord was able to shine as brightly as it did because it was unique and different than the legacy franchises it was surrounded by. And as much as I want more of it, I also want new games to be given the chance it did.

Right now, it’s more important to make sure older legacy titles are available for people to pick up and play whenever the itch to go back to them comes, rather than force sequels when they aren’t needed. There’s new ideas out there just waiting to be turned into amazing games.

It’s fine to have one and done games. It’s fine to have a trilogy that tells an intended story and then stops. As you said, not every series is built to be a Forever Franchise like Mario, and we shouldn’t treat them as such.

While there’s stuff that Vanillaware wasn’t able to put in due to time and budget constraints, the game is still an absolute masterpiece and they more or less told the story they wanted to tell. I don’t see where they could take a sequel (and Vanillaware isn’t really known for sequels anyway).
