We now have three UK records for the rare heleomyzid Schroederella iners, with this one nicely photographed by Paul Rule in Ely at the end of October. Heleomyzids well know from cave systems, but this one perhaps the first ever record from a man cave! @dipteristsforum.bsky.social #heleomyzidae
Post anzeigenThe seemingly very rare #Ephydridae fly Mosillus subsultans with its huge genae (cheeks) and weird facial projection. This one collected by @davebriceflies.bsky.social in East Anglia and sent over to have its picture added to www.flickr.com/groups/ephyd... @dipteristsforum.bsky.social
Post anzeigenA mosquito on flowers of aster (cf. Callistephus) just outside my front door this evening turns out to be Culiseta longiareolata, a formerly rare species that is becoming more frequent in the UK. An unexpected new species for me (and possibly new for Buckinghamshire) @dipteristsforum.bsky.social
