Nippon Sharyo more or less abandoned the NA market after they brought those (amazing) cars and didn't get orders. That ship has sailed but SMART could buy equivalent trains from Stadler or Siemens.

It's a single isolated line how bad could their reliability be?! The Swiss do this with *French trains* coming in from three different long branch lines!

It's quite a bummer. Those trains are really good, and would work really well on a lot of rail corridors across the US. Caltrans should have bought a hundred and thrown em on a bunch of disused or underused lines in the state

But I know the distances here are more significant and there aren't conveniently placed stations at every needed passing area.
