A lot of the pushback happening in Japanese games is taking place internally among the rank and file, people who are more anonymous to the outside world, but understand the hazards of AI. Keep speaking up and doing so in Japanese if you can; they're going against a REALLY strong tide right now.

Going against AI at this stage is going against what the gov claims will be its long-sought solutions for labor shortages, etc. That takes a different courage than what creatives are really used to showing even when they're outspoken elsewhere and the reality is not all of them will meet the moment.

Right now, that same gov is highly encouraging and incentivizing Japanese businesses of all stripes to adopt AI and make it work. It's not that anyone who doesn't will be explicitly punished per se, but being a rabble rouser at the "wrong," inconvenient time won't exactly do you any favors, either.

This quite famously happened about a decade ago with cell phone cancellation fees, which were an enormous problem for many until the Abe admin very belatedly told telecoms to knock it off. And it's happened again in recent years with businesses being told to raise salaries to keep up with inflation.

As I wrote before, in Japan, the sociopolitical dynamics are such that explicit legislation to get what it wants from businesses is a cudgel of last resort. It's often sufficient for the gov to state its desired outcome and have businesses more or less voluntarily align themselves accordingly.
