The South has the capacity to be a very strong union-based center-left sorta place. It has been in the past, it can be in the future. Just have to frame it correctly and find candidates that stand on real values, which this cycle especially highlighted.

Unions have to be industry wide, they can’t be building by building. The Carolina’s have “right to work” and “at will” laws which pretty much prevent workers from engaging in collective action. I don’t know about other states.

I would contend the Southern Strategy could have bore fruit for another decade at least, especially if the various minorities that have grown in the South were left to believe they were "part of the club." But this administration and the Roberts Court couldn't help themselves.

Even if this is just one election, it has to be read as the end of the Southern Strategy. I'm sure Republicans will retrench is many of these places, but this win will linger for years regardless.
