Patrick Stewart was visiting professor of drama when I was at uni. I went to his first lecture, and the crowd was almost all drama students, plus a front row of London theatre people. And perhaps four nerds. I was daywalking at the time - there for the acting stuff, also obviously a nerd.
Post anzeigenHe talked about his life and career and the Q&A was largely fawning theatre-stuff. Then one of the nerds nervously put up their hand and asked a Star Trek question, and you could hear half the room cringe. It was awful. Then he just sort of took control of the room. Made sure the question was heard.
Post anzeigenHe used it as a springboard to explain what he got out of doing Trek, what it allowed him to bring to TV, and why genre fiction deserves respect. He made those four nerds (and me!) feel like they understood something the rest of the room wasn't in on. I respected him so much for that. Always will.
Post anzeigenEvery time I open file explorer I wonder why I've got this.
