They've always been playing parts, for ragebait donations at first then as owned things, putting on performance for billionaire patrons. The billionaires hire them, impressed by their initial ability to draw a crowd. Then their message is moderated to their owners' demand. Then audience disconnect.

It's really fascinating watching them push themselves towards social extinction using alarmist extinction rhetoric red herrings. They're so busy selling the idea that the sky is falling that they failed to notice the ground crumble out from under them. They don't even believe the rhetoric, either.

So they keep pushing more extreme, jockeying for attention on X the everything app. The audience seems supportive so they keep going, thinking that they're manipulating the public. Playing the crowd like they've always done. They're not: the audience is fake, they're the ones being manipulated.

None of them can say, "we were wrong," which could lead to a social value decrease. They all must pivot to, "you didn't listen to me enough," which demands social standing elevation. The problem, though, is that they're all standing, no grandstanding, on each other. There's no one left listening.
