Senator Murphy publicly announced he had COVID in April 2022 & in August 2023. Studies have found that people who’ve had COVID (nearly everyone by now) are twice as likely to have a major cardiac event, such as a heart attack, stroke or even death, for up to three years after infection.

Do I know for certain COVID played a role in Senator Murphy’s stroke? Of course not. But it shouldn’t be automatically ruled out as a factor, as almost everyone—sadly including doctors, the media, & laypeople—do.

Also note 40% or more of COVID infections are asymptomatic but can still cause long term issues. And modeling suggests most people have had COVID 4-6 times by now. So Sen. Murphy may have had COVID more than twice.

If the media were better at informing people, you’d see articles about Sen. Murphy’s stroke that include something like: “Sen. Murphy publicly disclosed having COVID in 2022 & 2023. COVID infections can increase the risk of stroke & other cardiovascular events for up to three years after infection.”
