I just saw some mom of a child with a cochlear implant refer to it's activation as his "hearing birthday" and it made me really sad. Hearing tech can be useful and I don't begrudge anybody that tool, but equating that to birth/ being alive is a bummer and an unrealistic expectation for that tech.

Time for my Halloween hot takes: 1. If a teen "too old" be trick-or-treating comes to your door, give them the candy. 2. If a deaf/autistic/nonverbal/shy kid comes to your door and doesn't say trick-or-treat, do not harangue; give them the candy. 3. Switch Witch is garbage; give them the candy.

Thing is, as a deaf person, I'm not even an "inclusion" enthusiast. To me there is a lot of value in deaf-centered classrooms outside the mainstream. But these human worth arguments certainly ain't it.
