This is a good thread which I agree with, including not knowing what it looks like. But a second party system built on college-educated white voters and Black voters across the South voting in similar ways would be the end of GOP dominance in the region...and that's the most likely trajectory rn.

Trump dominates all media coverage, but you have had two huge *structural changes* that directly affect minority voters that have largely gone under the radar and the effects of ICE and SCOTUS murdering the VRA will persist *long* after Trump.

Southern politics had settled into a truce where African Americans got guaranteed representation in exchange for Republican statewide dominance. SCOTUS ended the truce. I'm convinced we're getting an entirely different Southern party system as a result, we just don't know what that will look like

Black turnout across the South is through the roof and the national media seems to be ignorant of the fact that effectively ending the VRA is part of a broader effort to roll back democracy. Black voters are mobilizing in response. For a region with perpetually low turnout, this is huge.

National media is an elite White space that misses a lot of major stories that pertain to minority politics. Two stories that are massively under reported at the moment 1.) ICE will be Texas' Prop 187. The sleeping Latino Giant electorate has awakened 2.) Gutting the VRA upended Southern politics.
