3/3 machines come without fans these days. As to browsers, and other big s/w, I think it's hard to perceive progress because (a) we remember what it was like without having them at all, and (b) the release cycles are now smaller and more frequent.

I have no experience with servers. I am not worried about my computer's idle electricity use. It goes into sleep mode, and paying for that little bit of juice compared to having to wait for it to boot from power off is well worth it. 1/3

I do think there is a meaningful change that arose as computers got faster and we started to rely on the upgrade cycle to make our software run instead of ever thinking about efficiency.

2/2 time I reboot these days is on Patch Tuesday. Another example: my browser almost never freezes anymore, even with multiple windows and dozens of tabs open. It has also added features so steadily that I don't even think about installing extensions any more. Won't take the capitalism bait.
