My dad's early work during his lifelong career in the fed govt involved investigating Hatch Act violations. He had great stories about confrontations with various political figures, including Ehrlichman & Haldeman pre-Watergate. Wish he was still here to talk to re the blatant disregard of the Act.

@nytimes.com 36-yr fed (judiciary) employee here. Complying with the Hatch Act isn't something about which one can be "lax." That's not a thing. They're vi - o - la - ting the law. To report on this accurately and in a way which conveys the most information to your readers, just say that.

WTF has happened to the NY Times? They know the administration is breaking the law. But, yet, they can't bring themselves to just say it. And what, on earth does "being lax about complying" with a federal law even mean??? Shameful.
