like, losing texas at every level is — and this is not hyperbole — an existential threat to the national party. texas doesn't even have to be a blue state for it to be an existential threat, if texas dems can get changes made fast enough to keep it competitive from now on, MAGA is fucked

this wouldn't be true about any other state, even florida, and definitely not georgia. but texas is supposed to be the republican party's unbreakable stronghold and the libs just destroyed the walls and have won the siege

a lot of people in the comments here are making the point that people said this in 2006 under george w bush, but texas was still a fortified republican stronghold in 2006, republicans up and down the line (including abbott, lol). that's what makes this time different.

it is going to take everyone — and i mean, literally, everyone, dem leadership, republicans, you and me — awhile to reorient their priors to a situation where texas is no longer the impenetrable fortress of chud, but the world where that's true offers possibilities none of us have considered
