Marta was an amazing human being, a loving mother, a brilliant scientist with an infectious enthusiasm for all things biology, and a kind and generous friend and colleague. I will miss her dearly.

Marta defined herself as a 'mother scientist' in this beautiful piece. She leaves a legacy both because of her extraordinary science and as a role model for the generations to come. My thoughts are with her family, friends, lab & everyone she touched with her warmth. www.cell.com/cell-stem-ce...

Besides a brilliant scientist, Marta was such a wonderful human being. It's still hard to grasp that we'll never nerd out about stem cells and morphogenesis again. That there won't be another opportunity to talk about the life we study and the life with our loved ones. Goodbye Marta, I'll miss you
