one thing I'm pretty confident of is that this is the worst time in history to pave rdbms cow paths. rewrites are cheaper by several orders of magnitude and your first thought is "my new database needs to be pg-compatible?" directionally insane

probably a more-than-one-person job, but modulo technical concerns a big part of the struggle will be convincing people to move on from classical rdbms as a paradigm. how exactly one should go about that depends on model trajectory, obviously

App stores always seemed at odds with internet scale, to me. The curated approach only ever worked through pretty extreme top-down control and denying lots of good stuff. I find it helpful to shift mindset toward search and ranking over an open ecosystem (with all the mess that openness implies).
